When to Plant:

Parsley likes warm weather.  Plant seeds outdoors when the soil temperature is 40°F or warmer. Parsley has a long germination period; you can plant outdoor just before the average last frost date.

Days to germinate

It takes parsley seeds 14-30 days to germinate.

Days to maturity

It takes about 70-90 days, depending on the variety grown.

Planting Depth

Plant seeds at 1/4 - 1/2" deep.

Germination Temperature Range

Parsley will germinate at temperatures as low as 40°F but does best when the soil is 80-90°F.

Spacing Between Plants

Plant parsley seeds 1-2" apart.

Growing conditions

Parsley likes loose soil with aged compost. Generally, no other fertilization is needed.  However, a 5-10-5 N-P-K ratio fertilizer will enhance your parsley crop.   Allow the top inch of soil to dry between waterings. Plant outdoors when the temperature is above 40°F and optimally when it is 80-90°F.

Companion Plants

Tomatoes, carrots, peppers, onions, peas, and chives are excellent companion plants for parsley.

Parsley helps regenerate depleted soil.  Rotate parsley annually to a bed where a heavy feeders; e.g. tomatoes or peppers.

Anticipated yields

Plan your garden yield at 2-3 parsley plants per person. Plant 4-10 additional plants for drying. Generally, expect about 1 cup of fresh parsley from 1-3 plants every two weeks or so.
